When dealing with alopecia, especially hair loss in patches, it helps to explore underlying causes from the viewpoint of Ayurveda. This condition is often linked to imbalances in Pitta and Vata doshas, so our aim is to harmonize these elements and restore your body's natural balance. First, let's tackle nutrition as it plays a crucial role in hair health. Focus on foods that pacify Pitta, such as cooling, hydrating foods like cucumber, leafy greens, and coriander. Increase your intake of protein-rich foods to support your hair’s strength, like lentils, nuts, and seeds. Avoid spicy, oily, and fried foods which can aggravate Pitta. Incorporate Ayurvedic herbs that are known for promoting hair growth and balancing doshas. Bhringraj (Eclipta prostrata) is considered very effective for hair-fall issues. You can take Bhringraj powder with water daily, around half a teaspoon twice a day after meals, unless contraindicated by your physician. Another helpful herb is Amalaki (Amla), rich in vitamin C, which you can consume in powder form or as fresh fruit to boost immunity and nourish hair. Consider regularly applying warm coconut oil or sesame oil infused with herbs like Brahmi or Bhringraj to your scalp. This not only nourishes the roots but also calms Vata. Aim to apply the oil 2-3 times a week, allowing it to sit for at least an hour before rinsing with a gentle herbal shampoo. Manage stress through practices like yoga, pranayama, and meditation. Stress aggravates Vata, leading to hair loss so incorporating 15-20 minutes daily can make a difference. It's important to be consistent with these practices, observing changes over a course of few months. However, always consult with a healthcare professional familiar with your specific health picture before beginning any new treatment. Ayurveda's beauty lies in its individualized approach, what works wonders for one may not for another without proper tailoring.
