I am really struggling with overthinking lately, and it’s driving me nuts! Just the other day, I was trying to plan a simple get-together with friends, and I found myself spiraling into all these thoughts about what if they didn't have fun or what if something goes wrong! Everything felt overwhelming, you know? It’s not just about social stuff, though; I can't stop replaying past conversations in my head, thinking about what I coulda said different or just worrying about what people think. I read a bit about how to remove overthinking using mindfulness but not sure what works best. Some days I try breathing exercises and that helps a lil bit, but I end up back to the same cycle. Like, why can't I just relax? I did some yoga too, but I still feel my mind racing. Any Ayurvedic tips or practices on how to remove overthinking? Would love some practical suggestions, anything that can help turn this around!

Overthinking can certainly be a challenge, but Ayurveda offers some practical solutions rooted in its understanding of mind-body balance. Since overthinking is often associated with heightened Vata dosha, it’s key to focus on grounding and soothing practices.

Firstly, consider including a regular routine of Abhyanga, which is self-massage with warm oil, preferably sesame oil in your daily schedule. This practice calms the nervous system and nourishs the skin, promoting relaxation. Do it in the morning before bathing, leaving the oil on your skin for at least 15-20 minutes.

Diet can also support your mental balance. Focus on warm, cooked foods with nourishing qualities. Increase intake of oils like ghee, as well as grounding foods like root vegetables and whole grains. Herbal teas made from Brahmi or Ashwagandha can also support mental clarity and reduce anxiety by promoting calmness.

Practicing Pranayama, specifically Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), can be immensely helpful. Set aside 5-10 minutes daily for this practice. It balances the flow of prana and centers the mind, reducing anxiety. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and breathe through one nostril while closing the other, alternating nostrils every few breaths.

Incorporate meditation too, even if it’s just 5 minutes a day. Choose a quiet spot, close your eyes and simply observe your breath. Initially, your mind will wander but bringing focus back to your breath is integral.

Lastly, maintain regular sleeping times to support a balanced lifestyle. A consistent waking and sleeping time helps stabilize Vata, which plays a role in overthinking.

While these practices tend to be beneficial, if the problems persist or become overwhelming, seeking guidance from a healthcare professional would be prudent to explore any underlying issues that Ayurveda alone may not address. Take gradual steps, and you’ll likely start to see some shifts in your mental patterns. This should help a lot in easing the overthinking loop.
