Namaste Nasrin ji,

Your mother’s symptoms of dengue, high fever, shivering, and vomiting indicate aggravated Pitta and Vata doshas due to the viral infection, leading to loss of strength and vitality. Here is a holistic Ayurvedic approach to support her recovery:

Key Ayurvedic Measures Hydration and Platelet Support: Give fresh papaya leaf juice (10-15 ml) twice daily—it is known to help improve platelet count. Coconut water and pomegranate juice are also beneficial for hydration and energy. Herbal Medicines: Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia): Decoction (20 ml) twice daily to boost immunity and reduce fever. Tulsi (Holy Basil): Prepare an infusion with 5-7 leaves to manage fever and strengthen the respiratory system. Amrita Satva (processed Guduchi extract): 250 mg with honey, twice daily. For Shivering and Fever: Use a warm infusion of Shunthi (Dry Ginger) and Musta (Cyperus rotundus) to regulate fever and calm Vata. Apply a warm compress to hands and feet to reduce shivering. For Vomiting: Mix Dhanvantaram Kashayam (10 ml) with equal water, taken twice daily to settle digestion and calm the stomach. Elaichi (Cardamom) powder with honey can help ease nausea. Dietary Recommendations: Light, easily digestible foods like moong dal soup, rice gruel, and steamed vegetables. Avoid spicy, fried, and heavy foods that can aggravate Pitta. Rest and Recovery: Ensure complete rest and keep her in a warm, comfortable environment to balance Vata. Monitoring and Caution Keep a close watch on platelet count and fever. If the fever persists or platelets drop further, immediate hospitalization may be required for supportive care like IV fluids or transfusion. May she recover soon. Stay in touch for any further guidance.

Dengue fever can cause a significant drop in platelet count and lead to symptoms such as high fever, chills, and shivering. While medical care is crucial, Ayurveda can offer complementary support to boost immunity, reduce fever, and help with recovery.

Ayurvedic Recommendations: Herbal Remedies:

Papaya Leaf Extract: This is a well-known remedy for increasing platelet count and improving immunity. You can juice fresh papaya leaves (under medical guidance) or find it in supplement form. Giloy (Tinospora Cordifolia): Known for its immune-boosting properties, it can help combat fever and improve overall strength during the recovery phase. Turmeric and Ginger: Both have anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce fever. Make a warm drink with a pinch of turmeric, fresh ginger, and honey. Tulsi (Holy Basil): Known for its antiviral and immune-boosting properties, Tulsi can be boiled with water and consumed as a tea. Dietary Recommendations:

Hydration: Ensure your mother stays well-hydrated. Coconut water, fresh fruit juices (like orange juice), and warm soups can help maintain electrolyte balance and support recovery. Include light and nutritious foods like khichdi, boiled vegetables, and rice to ease digestion and support her strength. Avoid heavy, spicy foods that might irritate the stomach during this time. Supportive Care:

Rest: Adequate rest is essential for recovery from dengue fever. Ensure she gets enough sleep and stays as comfortable as possible. Cooling Measures: If she is experiencing chills and shivering, using a lukewarm sponge bath may help alleviate the discomfort. Frequent monitoring: Regularly monitor platelet levels and overall symptoms under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Since the condition is already being treated in the hospital, it is important to continue the prescribed medications and follow up with the doctor to ensure proper care. Ayurveda can complement the treatment by strengthening the immune system and supporting overall recovery.

I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s condition. Dengue can be quite serious, and it’s good that she’s already receiving medical care. Sometimes recovery can take some time, so patience and supportive care are really important right now.

For reducing the discomfort from high fever and shivering, make sure she’s staying hydrated – plenty of fluids like coconut water, fresh juices, or just plain water. These help maintain hydration, as dengue can easily cause dehydration. Warm water can be soothing if she’s comfortable with it.

About her diet, try to focus on easily digestible foods. Moong dal khichdi or rice with well-cooked veggies can be gentle on her stomach. These foods can provide necessary energy without taxing her digestive system too much.

Rest is equally crucial, though it can be hard with the fever and chills. You might try giving her a warm bath if it doesn’t make her shiver more; it sometimes helps soothe the aches.

On an Ayurvedic note, consider bringing tulsi (holy basil) into her routine if you haven’t already. Boil a few leaves in water and let her sip it throughout the day. Tulsi is known for its immune-boosting properties. Also, giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) is often recommended in Ayurveda for fever management, but always check with her doctor, especially since she’s already under medical treatment.

You should also watch closely for any signs that could need urgent medical attention – like bleeding gums or blood in vomiting – these require quick professional attention. Keep the medical team informed about each symptom.

Most of all, keep a close connection with healthcare provider through this. Thanks to being vigilant, you’re already doing a big part in helping her recovery.
