Mood swings, disturbed sleep, and low appetite can really be unsettling, especially when they persist. From an Ayurvedic perspective, these symptoms could signify an imbalance in your doshas, likely an aggravation of Vata and possibly Pitta. Let’s try to restore some balance.

Firstly, for mood swings, it’s essential to stabilize Vata dosha. This can be done through regular routines — try to wake up and go to bed at the same time every day. Abhyanga, or self-massage with warm sesame oil, can be particularly grounding, calming the nervous system and promoting relaxation. Do this in the morning or evening for about 15 to 20 minutes, followed by a warm bath or shower.

For disturbed sleep, creating a sleep-enhancing environment is crucial. Ensure your room is dark, quiet, and cool, and avoid screens at least an hour before bed. Drinking a cup of warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg or turmeric before bed can help induce sleep. Ayurveda also suggests practicing ‘Nadi Shodhana’ or alternate nostril breathing before bed, clearing and calming the mind for better sleep.

Regarding low appetite, it could be an indication of weak digestive fire or ‘Agni’. Consume warm, lightly spiced meals that are easy to digest. Sipping on ginger tea or cumin-coriander-fennel tea throughout the day can enhance digestive fire. Avoid cold, raw foods, which can be difficult to digest, and focus more on freshly cooked meals.

Ayurvedic herbs such as Brahmi or Ashwagandha might be beneficial for mood stabilization and overall stress management, but do consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized advice on dosage and use.

Remember, small, consistent changes can make a difference. If these symptoms feel overwhelming or persist, seeking guidance from a healthcare provider or a seasoned Ayurvedic physician who can offer tailored support, would be wise. Addressing the root cause through comprehensive lifestyle and dietary adjustments can foster lasting well-being.
