Doctors' responses

Hi, Start Ayurvedic medicines along with your current medications. When your symptoms improve, you can gradually reduce the dosage of the allopathic medications and eventually stop that. Take * manas mitra vatakam 2 tab twice daily after food * Saraswatarishtam 30 ml twice daily after food * Kalyanakam kashaya 15 ml twice daily before food mixed with 60 ml luke warm water * Dhanwantaram gulika 2tab thrice daily before food Don’t expect the changes to be immediate. Notice the slight changes. Have atleast 2 hours gap between the allopathic medicine and ayurvedic medicines. Reach out if you feel any gastric discomfort or any other issues. If possible go for a sirodhara. If not use brahmi taila on scalp and foot and massage for 10 minutes every day.

When OCD, depression, anxiety, and insomnia occur together, the nervous system usually remains in a constant state of hyper-arousal. Even if you are on allopathic medication, persistent insomnia suggests that the system is still not fully regulated or that medicines may need review. In Ayurveda, the focus at this stage is on calming the mind, stabilizing Vata, and improving sleep quality rather than only targeting thoughts. Supportive measures may include: • Medhya rasayana support such as Brahmi, Ashwagandha, or Shankhapushpi (selected based on your constitution and digestion) • Night routine correction – fixed sleep timing, no screens 1 hour before bed, warm milk with suitable herbs if tolerated • Daily abhyanga (warm oil self-massage) and gentle breathing practices • Avoid caffeine, late meals, and overstimulation at night However, since you are already on psychiatric medication, do not stop or add anything without proper supervision. Severe insomnia along with OCD and depression needs coordinated care. A detailed consultation will help assess your current medicines, sleep pattern, stress level, and body constitution so a safe and structured Ayurvedic support plan can be designed alongside your ongoing treatment.

First, I want to understand something important: What medicines are you currently taking (name + dose)? How long have you been on them? Is insomnia since starting medicine or before? Some psychiatric medicines themselves can worsen insomnia, especially: SSRIs (like fluoxetine, sertraline) SNRIs Bupropion Stimulant-like meds So we need to see whether this is illness-related or medication-related. Why Insomnia Is So Severe in OCD/Anxiety When you have: Constant overthinking Doubting Mental checking Fear loops Your brain stays in “hyper-alert” mode. Your nervous system stays in: High cortisol High adrenaline Sympathetic dominance Sleep requires the opposite — parasympathetic calm. So the brain is tired… but won’t switch off. What You Can Do Now (Practical Plan) 1️⃣ Medication Review (Very Important) You must speak to your psychiatrist about: Shifting antidepressant timing to morning Adding sleep-support medication short term (e.g., trazodone, mirtazapine, low-dose quetiapine — only doctor decides) Checking if dose adjustment is needed Do NOT stop medication suddenly. 2️⃣ Night Routine Reset (Very Strict) For 2 weeks: No phone 1 hour before bed Same sleep time daily (even if sleep is poor) Bed only for sleep (not thinking, not scrolling) If awake >20 min → get up, sit quietly, return when sleepy This is CBT-I technique. 3️⃣ Calm the OCD Loop Before Bed Do this 30 min before sleep: Write down: All doubts All worries “Tomorrow I will think about this at ___ time” Close notebook. Brain relaxes when thoughts are “stored”. 4️⃣ Body Relaxation Try this breathing: 4 seconds inhale 6 seconds exhale Slow breathing activates vagus nerve. Do 5–10 minutes.
