Is Reverse Osmosis Water Safe for My Vata-Pitta Imbalance? - #39951

Hello, a reverse osmotic water purifying device has been set installed in my home. The water is acidic and has a very low mineral matter content. Do you suggest to drink this water and cook with it, or minerals should be added before use? What mineral content of water is considered beneficial and healthy? I am a Vata-Pitta person with Vata and Pitta imbalances. Thanks for your answer in advance, Best regards, Judit Koch

Ayurveda emphasizes maintaining balance and harmony in the body’s doshas through appropriate intake of food and water. For your Vata-Pitta condition, ensuring the water you consume supports balance is crucial.

Vata imbalances may manifest as dryness, irregular digestion, and anxiety, while Pitta imbalances might show up as irritation, skin issues, and indigestion. Both doshas benefit from water that’s mildly alkaline and rich in essential minerals. RO water’s demineralization may actually exacerbate Vata dryness and Pitta acidity due to its lack of grounding and cooling properties.

To make RO water more suitable, you might consider re-mineralization. Adding minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium could help maintain a moderate pH and support dosha balance. You can achieve this by using a re-mineralizing filter or adding drops of trace minerals, available at health stores. A moderate mineral content, typically 150-400 ppm (parts per million), can be beneficial as it supports hydration and normal physiological functions, crucial for balancing Vata and cooling Pitta.
