What is the difference between turbinado sugar and white sugar, and how does sharkara sugar compare? - #54348
In reading the article on white sugar, where does turbinado sugar stand? Is it merely white sugar with some molasses added back in? What about sharkara sugar made in India? Thank you.

1. White Sugar (Refined Sugar) Highly processed, stripped of all natural minerals In Ayurveda: considered “empty” and tamasic Increases Kapha and can aggravate Ama (toxins) Regular use may weaken digestion (Agni) and immunity 2. Turbinado Sugar (Raw / Partially Refined) Less processed than white sugar, retains a little molasses Slightly more minerals, but still mostly sucrose In Ayurveda: better than white sugar, but still not ideal for daily use Mildly less harmful, yet can still increase Kapha if overused It is not just white sugar with molasses added back, but a less-refined stage of sugar production. 3. Sharkara (Traditional Indian Sugar) Made using traditional methods (less chemical processing) Retains natural minerals and pranic value In Ayurveda: considered satvik and nourishing Supports digestion, energy, and balance, when used moderately Best choice: Sharkara Moderate: Turbinado sugar Avoid / minimize: White refined sugar
Thank you! Does turbinado sugar imbalance the doshas?
turbinado sugar (madhura, sheeta) pacifies Vata and Pitta but increases Kapha if taken in excess.
