Possible Causes Medication side effects: Many blood pressure, diabetes, and heart medicines can cause diarrhea. Polypharmacy (multiple medicines) is a common trigger in older adults. Dietary factors: Irregular eating habits, excess caffeine, spicy/oily food, or lactose intolerance. Infections or parasites: Chronic bacterial or parasitic infections can persist without fever or pain. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS-D): Functional gut disorder causing long-term loose stools. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): Ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease. Malabsorption issues: Celiac disease, pancreatic insufficiency, or bile acid malabsorption. Age-related changes: Reduced gut resilience and slower recovery from minor triggers. Do’s ✅ Hydration: Drink plenty of water, oral rehydration solution (ORS), or rice water to replace fluids and electrolytes. Diet: Eat small, frequent meals. Include binding foods like rice, bananas, applesauce, and toast (BRAT diet). Add probiotics (curd/yogurt) to restore gut flora. Monitor medicines: Review current prescriptions with your doctor to check for diarrhea-causing drugs. Medical evaluation: Stool test, colonoscopy, or blood work may be needed to rule out infections or chronic conditions. Don’ts ❌ Avoid oily, spicy, and fried foods. Limit caffeine, alcohol, and artificial sweeteners (like sorbitol). Don’t ignore persistent symptoms — chronic diarrhea is not normal aging. WARM REGRADS DR. ANJALI SEHRAWAT

Continuous loose motions for a month at the age of 57 should not be ignored. Common causes can include chronic intestinal infection, post-infection gut irritation, food intolerance, stress-related IBS, weak digestion (mandagni), or disturbance in gut flora. Irregular eating habits can also significantly disturb bowel regulation. Even if there are no other major symptoms, persistence beyond a few weeks requires proper evaluation to rule out infection, malabsorption, or inflammatory conditions. General dos: • Eat at fixed times daily • Prefer light, warm, freshly cooked food • Include rice, moong dal, pomegranate, boiled vegetables • Stay well hydrated with warm water or light buttermilk (if tolerated) • Take adequate rest Don’ts: • Avoid fried, spicy, very oily, and processed foods • Avoid raw salads and heavy non-vegetarian meals temporarily • Avoid overeating or long fasting gaps • Do not self-medicate repeatedly without diagnosis In Ayurveda, mild Kutaj-based formulations are commonly used to regulate bowel frequency, but the choice depends on your digestion strength and body type. Since symptoms have continued for several weeks, I recommend a proper consultation and basic evaluation before starting medicines. Identifying the root cause is important for safe and lasting relief.

Continuous loose motions for several weeks at your age are usually due to weak digestion (mandagni), irregular diet, stress, or lingering gut irritation after infection. Persistent diarrhea can also indicate issues like chronic inflammation, malabsorption, or imbalance in the colon. Dos: Eat light, warm, freshly cooked meals at regular times Include rice, moong dal, boiled vegetables, and pomegranate Drink warm water and maintain hydration Take adequate rest Don’ts: Avoid fried, oily, very spicy, and processed foods Avoid raw salads or heavy non-vegetarian meals temporarily Avoid overeating or long fasting gaps Do not self-medicate repeatedly without guidance Ayurveda often uses mild Kutaj-based medicines to regulate bowel movements, but the exact choice and dose depend on digestion strength and constitution. Since this has lasted for weeks, a personal consultation is recommended to identify the root cause and create a safe, effective plan to restore regular digestion.
