Is There an Age Limit for Using Shilajit According to Ayurvedic Medicine? - #22109

Grace

I am really curious about Shilajit and whether there’s a specific age limit for using this stuff. So, like, my granddad has been taking it for years, right? He swears by it! Says it gives him energy, helps with his joint pain, and just makes him feel more alive. But now I’m wondering, is it all good or is there an age limit for shilajit that we should be aware of? Just the other day, I read some random posts online where people have different opinions. Some say it’s totally safe for older folks, and others go on about how kids and teenagers shouldn't take it. But what about ages like 65 and older? Is my granddad okay taking it? And how does Shilajit even work, you know? I’ve got a few friends who are into Ayurvedic stuff, and they’re all like, 'Oh, it’s nature’s miracle!' but I don’t know what to think because of the age limit thing. If there is one, what're the side effects for those who are past that age limit for shilajit? Just wanna make sure he’s not risking anything here! Should I talk to our family doctor or just trust what the old folks say? Any advice would be super helpful, thanks, everyone!

Shilajit is a natural substance that's actually been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. It's known to contain over 80 minerals, fulvic acid, and humic acid which make it quite a powerful supplement. In Ayurvedic texts, like Charaka Samhita, Shilajit is praised for its rejuvenating properties. It doesn't have a specific age limit as per the classical texts; instead, its suitability greatly depends on a person’s individual health, constitution, and lifestyle. For older adults, including those aged 65 and above, Shilajit can often be beneficial, provided they have a certain level of digestive fire (agni) to metabolize it effectively. It’s known to enhance energy, improve joint health, and boost overall vitality, which can be quite beneficial for the elderly. However, it's crucial for your granddad to consider his body's specific needs and any underlying health conditions before continuing with Shilajit. Kids and teenagers, on the other hand, typically don't require Shilajit unless prescribed by an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner for specific conditions. Their body constitution and developmental needs are different, and sometimes the intensive strength of Shilajit might be too concentrated for younger ones. Your concern about potential side effects is valid. If Shilajit is taken inappropriately, or if it’s impure, side effects could include gastrointestinal discomfort, dizziness, or lowered blood pressure. That's why it’s always crucial your granddad uses a reputable source to ensure it's pure and authentic Shilajit; low-quality or fake products could be harmful. Talking to your family doctor can definitely be a good move if you have concerns, especially if your granddad is on medication or has chronic health conditions. Integrating both allopathic and Ayurvedic perspectives can lead to a more balanced and safe approach to health. I would recommend that your granddad considers tracking how he feels while taking it, and make adjustments if any adverse effects occur.
