can we eat apple and curd together - #25861

Anthony

I am really confused about my diet lately. I had this amazing smoothie with apple and curd the other day, and it was delicious!! But then my friend told me that it's not good to mix apple and curd. She said it can give you digestion problems or something like that. I didn’t have any issues after that smoothie, but now I’m like should I avoid it completely? I mean, can we eat apple and curd together or not? I’m trying to be healthier, but the advice I get is all over the place. Sometimes I feel like if I mix fruit with dairy, I'm doing something wrong, but other times, I see people pairing up different fruits and yogurt. Is that really a thing? It’s really frustrating! Would love to hear if anyone here has actually experienced any issues or if it’s just another diet myth? Should I stick to my apples and curd combo or keep them separate just in case? Thanks a bunch!

From an Ayurvedic perspective, apple and curd together isn't usually recommended. Ayurveda classifies food based on different qualities like taste, potency, and the post-digestive effect, which can affect your digestion and overall health. Mixing apples, which are considered sweet and astringent, with curd, which is sour and heavy, can potentially disturb the balance of the doshas, especially Pitta and Kapha. This combination could possibly create digestive discomfort for those who are susceptible to such imbalances. However, you've mentioned you didn't experience any immediate issues after consuming the smoothie, which suggests your digestive fire, or agni, might be strong enough to handle this combination. It's all about how your body reacts. Still, if you aim for a diet in line with Ayurvedic recommendations, it might be better to avoid such combos regularly, focusing instead on harmonizing your meals with your dosha type. If you wish to incorporate these ingredients occasionally, you could perhaps try consuming them at different times. You might take apple in the morning and curd in afternoon with spices such as cinnamon or ginger to aid digestion. Curd is usually suggested to be eaten alone or with savory foods, and not with most fruits, except maybe for a few such as ripe bananas—but even this could vary based on your unique constitution or any allergies. Implementing these small dietary modifications can align with your health goals, respecting the traditional Ayurvedic guidelines. But again, if it's part of a one-time treat or smoothie, and your body seems to handle it well, occasional indulgence might be okay. Keeping track of any symptoms or discomfort after trying different food combinations is essential to understand what suits you best personally. Ultimately, the key is to listen to your body and see what it can comfortably digest without issues. Hopefully, this guidance makes your quest for a healthier diet a little less frustrating!
