is dalia good for weight gain - #43553

Liam

I am struggling to find the right foods for my weight gain journey, and I keep hearing about dalia. I want to know, is dalia good for weight gain? I've always been pretty skinny, but lately, I've been feeling like I need to put on some healthy weight. My friends suggested eating more carbs, and then I remembered dalia from childhood. My mom used to make it for breakfast, kinda like porridge, but I don't remember what it tasted like honestly. Sometimes, I skip meals because I’m busy, and I'm looking for something nutritious. I've tried protein shakes and some other energy bars, but they just don't satisfy me. If dalia's good for weight gain, how do you prep it? Like, do I add sugar or something to make it more yummy? Or can I toss in fruits or nuts? I read somewhere that dalia could help with digestion too, but does that matter if my main goal is to gain? Also, what other benefits does dalia have? I don't wanna rely just on one thing, but knowing if it works would really help. Hope this makes sense! Thanks, ya’ll!

Doctors' responses

Dalia, a coarsely ground wheat product, can indeed be beneficial for those looking to gain weight in a healthy way. In Ayurveda, it’s known to boost the Agni, our digestive fire, which aids in the efficient assimilation of nutrients. Given your busy schedule and tendency to skip meals, dalia can be a convenient, nutrient-packed meal option that doesn’t take too long to prepare.

When it comes to weight gain, dalia acts as a slow-releasing carbohydrate. It’s more than just a grain; it’s a source of energy that will keep you full for longer periods and help maintain consistent energy levels, reducing the chances of unhealthy snacking. Since you’re aiming for weight gain, consider adding milk, jaggery or ghee to your dalia. These not only enhance its taste but also increase its caloric and nutritional value. You can throw in nuts or seeds like almonds and flaxseeds for added protein and healthy fats. Fruits like bananas or apples can also boost flavor and nutrients, making the dalia both delicious and wholesome.

Digestively, dalia is quite gentle on the stomach, supporting regular bowel movements and aiding overall gut health. Even though digestion might seem secondary to your weight gain goals, its role in nutrient absorption can’t be overstated. Efficient digestion ensures that your body is able to draw more nourishment from the foods you eat, paving the path to healthy weight gain.

Besides weight gain, dalia helps in stabilizing blood sugar levels and provides a good dose of vitamins and minerals such as magnesium and phosphorus. For your convenience, prepare it in bulk and store portions for quick meals. Dalia’s flexibility in preparation allows you to modify it to your taste, ensuring you remain consistent with its consumption.

Given that dalia alone won’t suffice for your weight gain journey, balance it with a diet rich in proteins, good fats, and other whole grains. Focus on regular meals, staying hydrated, and incorporating some form of physical activity to build appetite. If there’s a concern about meal schedules, set reminders or prepare meals in advance to avoid skipping. This holistic approach, backed by the goodness of dalia, can effectively support your weight gain mission.
