does chyawanprash increase weight - #24320

Andrew

I am really confused about this whole thing with chyawanprash. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now because I heard it's good for immunity and energy. But I can’t help but notice that I feel like I might be gaining some weight! 😬 Like, just last week, I stepped on the scale, and it seemed like the numbers were a bit higher than usual. I mean, I wasn’t eating much junk and have even tried to keep my diet pretty balanced. Does chyawanprash increase weight? I thought it was supposed to be healthy?! And maybe it’s just my imagination, or maybe I’m just being paranoid. Has anyone else had this experience? Also, I read somewhere that it’s high in calories because of all the ingredients, which made me think maybe that’s why? I want the benefits, but if it’s making me gain weight, then I don’t know if I should keep taking it. Any tips or experiences anyone can share? Thanks!

Chyawanprash, being a traditional Ayurvedic formulation, is indeed well-regarded for boosting immunity, enhancing energy, and rejuvenating one's health. However, your concerns about weight gain are not unfounded, and it's important to consider a few elements that might be influencing this. The formulation of chyawanprash includes various herbs, ghee, honey, and amla (Indian gooseberry), which indeed can be relatively high in calories. Taken in moderation, it usually doesn't lead to noticeable weight gain for most people, but individual responses can vary, especially if your body constitution or prakriti tends towards kapha dosha, which might be more prone to weight gain. Kapha types are usually advised to be mindful of heavier or rich foods. If you suspect chyawanprash might be contributing to unexpected weight gain, consider these few adjustments: First, watch the dosage. Typically, one teaspoon (5-10 grams) per day is recommended for general health. Consuming more than that might lead to an excess of calories. Second, timing of intake matters. It's generally better to take chyawanprash in the morning on an empty stomach as it can be well-assimilated and provide energy for the day that way. If you have a tendency to gain weight easily, you might also want to monitor other parts of your diet and ensure portion control in meals. Balance is the key, so pair chyawanprash with a light, fresh diet rich in vegetables and whole grains. Lean towards warm, cooked meals and favor spices like black pepper, cumin, and ginger, which can support digestion and balance potential kapha imbalances. Don't forget physical activity! Regular exercise helps in maintaining healthy weight and boosts metabolism, work to create a routine that you can adhere to consistently, even light exercise movements count. Lastly, if weight gain continues or you have other concerns, it might be worthwhile to consult an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner who could tailor advice specific to your constitution and needs. Remember, Ayurveda is all about personalization and finding what truly works for you.
