is curd good for weight loss at night - #24492

Alexander

I am trying to figure out if curd is good for weight loss at night. I read somewhere that dairy can be tricky for weight loss, but I really enjoy having curd before bed as a snack. A few months ago, I started watching my diet and going to the gym, but I feel like my nighttime snacking is holding me back. Last week, I tried having curd instead of my usual chips, but I can’t decide if that was a good choice or not. I feel like it fills me up, but then again I’ve heard mixed things about dairy late at night. Some say it slows down metabolism, others say it can help with digestion. 😬 Is curd good for weight loss at night or could it be counterproductive? I guess I just want to know if there's a reason I shouldn’t keep having it! Any insights would be super helpful — thanks a lot!

Curd can be a supportive element in a weight loss journey if consumed with mindfulness to your dosha, overall dietary habits, and daily routine. From an Ayurvedic perspective, fresh curd is generally nourishing, and if taken in moderation, it can contribute to a balanced meal. However, it's important to consider a few nuances. Eating curd at night, especially if you’re predominantly Kapha or if your digestive fire (agni) is weak can sometimes be unbeneficial due to its cooling and heavy nature. Consuming it in the evening might slow down your metabolism and aggravate Kapha, leading to sluggish digestion or congestion, making it less effective for weight loss during this time. For optimal digestion and metabolism, try incorporating spices like cumin or black pepper in curd, which can help in enhancing agni, making it more suited for a Kapha individual even at night. Perhaps take a smaller portion, aiming for about 100 to 150 grams. Pairing it with fibrous veggies like cucumber or adding ginger can also help in balancing its effects, keeping your doshas in check. Never have it cold; it’s better to slightly warm it or allow it to come to room temperature before consuming. Since you mentioned snacking as a hurdle, curd can be a good step up from chips, but balance and moderation is key. Ensure it doesn’t replace a diverse diet rich in vegetables, legumes, and whole grains which will support and promote weight loss. And remember, focus on maintaining a timely routine for meals and snacks—ideally, try to finish your last meal by around 7 PM to allow adequate digestion before sleep. Lastly, pay attention to how your body responds. If you notice any discomfort, congestion or sluggishness in the morning, it might be worth re-evaluating its inclusion in your nighttime routine. Keep listening to your body — sometimes what works in theory can vary in practice. If needed, you might swap it with warm teas with a dash of ginger or herbal infusions that aid digestion.
