does gond katira increase weight - #25021

Anna

I am trying to figure out if gond katira actually increases weight. Lately, I started adding it to my diet because I read it could help with digestion and some other stuff, but I've noticed I’ve been putting on some pounds. I mean, I thought it was supposed to boost metabolism or something? I was mainly using it as a thickener in smoothies and stuff, but now I'm kinda worried if I should cut it out. My friends say it’s totally natural, but is it possible that gond katira increases weight for some people? I’ve also been snacking more, which might be part of the problem too. Ugh. Anyway, I’ve read it can have some benefits for gut health and all, and I want to see those results without dealing with the scale creeping up. Has anyone else experienced this or can share their thoughts? Really could use any advice or experiences, thanks!

Gond katira, also known as tragacanth gum, is indeed a natural product derived from the sap of the Astragalus tree. In Ayurveda, it is highly valued for its cooling properties and potential benefits in improving digestion, which could, in theory, contribute to weight management. However, there can be different responses to consuming gond katira based on your individual constitution (prakriti), lifestyle and dietary habits. It's key to note that while gond katira is known to aid in digestion and possibly improve metabolism for some, it is not typically associated with causing weight gain directly. However, it is an excellent source of soluble fiber, which can make you feel fuller for longer, potentially leading to inadvertent overeating or snacking due to perceived hunger cycles being elongated. If you have increased your caloric intake from other sources, such as snacks, and are mixing gond katira into these, then this might contribute to the addition of a few extra pounds. To harness its benefits while managing your weight, consider moderating the quantity you are using and being mindful of the other ingredients in your smoothies and overall daily caloric intake. If you are using gond katira in excess or in combination with high-calorie foods, it may add to your overall intake more than intended. Try to maintain a diet that balances your doshas and keeps your agni (digestive fire) strong, such as incorporating more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, along with regular physical activity. For personalized advice, it is often worth consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can assess your prakriti and specific needs. They can provide guidance tailored to your body constitution to prevent weight gain while enjoying the benefits of gond katira for digestion and gut health.
